Kate (Gemma-Leah Devereux) and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor in a scene from the movie

World weary, Dublin stand up comedienne, Kate McLoughlin is at breaking point. Her will to live
is waning. When her morbid prayers are answered in the form of a cancer diagnosis, little does she know that getting out of this life is going to prove a lot more difficult that she thinks. To placate her family, she begrudgingly agrees to undergo chemotherapy.

Armed with staggering levels of cynicism and a plethora of blackly comic jokes, her exit strategies are constantly upended when she encounters four powerful women whose unsolicited friendships challenge her, soften her and ultimately blow open her shut down heart.

THE REVIEWS

“Ruth Meehan’s
film is a
pleasant dramedy, rich in brilliant moments, and able to treat a delicate topic with depth & courage”
“A brave and ultimately rewarding approach to the subject of cancer. The film plays like a merrier version of One Flew over the Cuckoo´s Nest”

A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR
Ruth Meehan

´´This film is inspired by a combination of Anne Gildea’s honest and irreverent account of her journey through cancer and my own personal experience of the surprisingly, life enhancing cathartic power of loss and grief.

It was an absolute joy to make such a personal film as The Bright Side. It has nurtured, inspired and entertained me in a dark time.

I am delighted to have a chance to share it with audiences around the world on the big screen where I hope it will do the same for them``
